Everything I Need

Solo parenting five children for a week is a wonderful (albeit painful and exhausting) way for God to teach me. Chad's business trips don't happen that often, but I dread them. When he walks out the door my throat does this funny constricting thing, and breathing is really hard. This lasts for about three hours, during which I realize God has given me everything I need to accomplish what He wants me to do. And for this week, what He wants me to do seems like a lot. From middle of the night tea parties (for our chronic cougher) to changing every.single.dirty.diaper that happens, delivering boys to football to taking out the trash, to helping with every bit of homework....pretty much all of it depends on me. I am so thankful God takes pleasure in me doing all these mundane things. Because for one week, folks, that's pretty much all that's getting done around here. And really, who am I kidding? That's pretty much all that ever gets done around here.

Hi Heidi-
You have a beautiful family!!
I found your blog while researching adoption from Rwanda. My husband and I are at the VERY beginning- just filling out the application.
We are also from Iowa (the Quad Cities) Wondering if you'd be willing to share your experience, or give us some tips as we start our journey?
You can email me back at betsyloehr@msn.com.

Thanks!
Betsy

I love that picture of your boys. I am so glad I saw that tonight. It is hard to be in a holding pattern ... still certain God has called us to Rwanda, but knowing it is "wait" for now. Seeing Cooper's smiling face reminds me of why we're waiting.
(And now I'm going to connect with Betsy!)

wow- how did I ever miss your post? COuld it have been that I was helping Michael get ready to go back to Africa (Guinea-Bissua this time!)and I feel just like you did. We are on day 4 (or 5 depending on who is counting) and I miss him so. I especially miss the way he sort of swoops in at night when I am tired and everything is fresh and fun again..Love you all
