The New Cooper

Today we saw the new Cooper. Yesterday he was relatively unresponsive to our attempts at making him laugh, smile, or even look at us. Today he has smiled, laughed, babbled, and played! We have had a wonderful day in Rwanda, due in large part to the improvement we have seen in our son.

Today we also saw glimpses of what Cooper's life could have been. We visited the place he was abandoned at around 10 days of age. It was a nice neighborhood whose people obviously have more than many in Rwanda. What would his life have been like if someone had not left him there? Would his life have been a happy one, riding on his mother's back while she went about her daily tasks? Would she have struggled to keep him well? Would he have gone hungry? We believe his mother made quite a sacrifice when she abandoned him there, knowing she was leaving him in a place someone would find and help him. Without this sacrifice, we would have never met our sweet little boy. We would never have had the privilege to raise him to know about God's great love for him, about Jesus's ultimate sacrifice for each of us. Yes, his life and ours would be much different.

I know you don't know me but I'm a friend of Heather's. I've been following your journey for some time now and recently started following your blog too. From what I know the journey has been long but I'm sure holding that precious boy for the first time (and every time thereafter) has made it more than worth it. It's such an inspiring story to know that through your faith, trust and diligence another soul will be won to Christ. Praying for you and cheering you on! Marcy

We don't know Cooper's past but God does and now your futures are forever intertwined. Enjoy the PRESENT!

Still crying tears of joy when I read your blog!

Hi Chad and Heidi - I am looking forward to your next post and love seeing how you two have already touched Cooper's life. How are the other families doing with their adopted children? Are the other kids warming up to their new parents? Do you do things together as a group? What is your timetable for coming home? You mentioned something in an earlier post about Cooper's passport? You are in our prayers...
